The new documentary “DeBarge” made it’s premiere at the Slamdance Film Festival, this past Sunday and Monday.
It’s a heartbreaking industry story of substance abuse and the homeless crisis.
Told and shown by one of Pop/R&B‘s most talented and hit-making bands DeBarge.
From Detroit, the DeBarge family is a group of talented musicians often compared to the Jacksons.
Discovered by Motown, they quickly rose to fame in the early ’80s at a young age, producing chart-topping hits like “All This Love,” “I Like It,” and “Rhythm of the Night.”
Focusing on youngest sibling James DeBarge, often referred to as Janet Jackson’s first husband.
“DeBarge” explores the family’s struggles with fame and addiction while residing together in RVs on the streets of Los Angeles.
With the release of the documentary, UB has learned not all of the family members were told about it before hand. Nor given the opportunity to contribute or to approve their likeness.
El DeBarge owns the rights to the music of the band.
